As a one of the pulse family, these plump and succulent chickpeas have been pre-cooked for your convenience, ready to sprinkle into soups, curries and salads. Chickpeas are high in fibre and provide a source of plant-based protein too. Just 3 heaped tablespoons count as one of your five a day. Including pulses, like chickpeas in your diet often, could help you to reach the recommended daily intake of 30g fibre. Being plant-based, chickpeas are a good-value source of protein too and are an essential store cupboard ingredient. Getting adequate protein in our diet is important for growth and maintenance of muscle mass and maintenance of normal bones. Ways to use
- Sprinkle chickpeas over your lunchtime salads to keep you feeling full. Toss with leaves, chopped or grated raw veg and your favourite dressing.
- Add chickpeas to soups, stews and curries – they're excellent for soaking up surrounding flavours and are an excellent choice of protein
- For a quick protein and fibre rich snack, blitz chickpeas with a little garlic, toasted cumin seeds, lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil for a flavour packed and nourishing snack – enjoy with crunchy raw veg to dip - great for prepping ahead.
